Smart Sensors

Aqara sensors report five kinds of event: motion and presence, door and window contact, temperature and humidity, air quality, and safety conditions such as smoke, gas, water leaks and vibration. Motion and presence are not interchangeable — a PIR motion sensor reacts to movement and stops seeing a person who sits still, while an mmWave presence sensor keeps a room marked as occupied. Mounting height, angle and detection range then decide whether an automation behaves the way it was designed to. Most models are Zigbee devices that report through an Aqara hub; the Thread models need a Thread border router instead.
