Which Aqara Smart Lock Fits Your Door?
Choose an Aqara smart lock by door construction, mortise, deadbolt, retrofit cylinder, latch and gate fit—not by unlock features alone.

Smart-lock compatibility starts with the door, existing lock body, frame and opening clearances. A100 and D200i replace a mortise lockset; U200 turns an existing compatible cylinder from inside; U300 is a lever lock for a compatible single-latch preparation; U400 replaces a tubular deadbolt. These forms cannot be substituted on feature lists alone.
Measure and photograph the complete door before choosing access methods. A lock with the preferred fingerprint reader or Apple Home feature is still the wrong lock if its mortise, backset, bolt position, handle sweep or exterior keypad cannot fit the opening.

Identify the lock form before comparing features
A mortise lock has a substantial lock body cut into the door edge. A tubular deadbolt uses a round cross-bore and a smaller bolt hole. A cylindrical lever lock combines a latch and handles around a bore. A retrofit motor normally attaches to the indoor side of an existing compatible cylinder and turns the current mechanism.
The door material and frame matter as much as the lock. Timber doors allow different preparation from aluminium-framed glass doors, fire-rated doors and welded metal gates. Existing holes may not align with a new escutcheon, and a digital lock can foul a gate, door closer, jamb, grille or adjacent handle even when the lock body fits.
| Model | Lock form | What changes | Typical fit question |
|---|---|---|---|
| A100 | Integrated handle mortise | Mortise and front/rear panels | Can the door take the specified mortise, backset and handle clearance? |
| D200i | Fully automatic mortise | Motorised mortise and large front/rear panels | Is there enough door, frame and approach clearance for face recognition? |
| U200 / Lite | Interior retrofit motor | Existing cylinder retained; keypad on U200 | Can the motor turn the cylinder reliably and can a key still operate as required? |
| U300 | Single-latch lever | Latch and lever set replaced | Does the bore, backset, door thickness and handing match? |
| U400 | Tubular deadbolt | Deadbolt and exterior/interior panels replaced | Is the door prepared to the supported deadbolt dimensions? |
| B50 gate option | Tubular deadbolt-style lock | Requires suitable gate lock box | Can the box, strike and gate-to-door clearance be fabricated safely? |
Choose A100 for an integrated handle mortise
A100 combines an exterior keypad and fingerprint reader with lever handles and a multi-point mortise. It supports access methods including fingerprint, PIN, NFC, Apple Home Key, app and mechanical key, with the exact functions depending on connection and configuration.
It is a strong choice when a compatible main door can be prepared for the supplied mortise and the household wants a conventional pull-down handle. The door edge, backset, thickness, existing cut-outs and relationship to the strike must all be checked. Replacing another digital mortise lock is not automatically a drop-in swap because mortise dimensions and panel footprints differ.
The A100 can operate locally for everyday entry. An Aqara Zigbee hub is used for supported remote functions, automations and platform integration; the lock should not be selected on the assumption that the hub changes its mechanical fit.

Choose D200i for automatic mortise locking and face entry
D200i is also an integrated mortise lock, but its motorised body throws the bolts automatically when the door closes. Its exterior assembly adds 3D structured-light face recognition alongside Apple Home Key, fingerprint, PIN, NFC, Bluetooth and mechanical backup methods.
The approach angle is part of installation. Face recognition needs the front panel to see the person at a workable distance and height; a narrow corridor, gate position or door recess can change that path. The large front and rear assemblies also need clear surfaces and must not collide with a gate or adjacent hardware.
Choose it when the automatic locking action and hands-free face entry are worth the more involved lockset replacement. It is not a universal upgrade from A100: the door still has to match its own mortise and template.
Choose U200 when the existing cylinder should remain
U200 mounts its motor on the indoor side of a compatible existing cylinder, while an exterior keypad provides fingerprint, PIN, NFC and Apple Home Key access. The original mechanical lock remains the mechanism being turned. This can avoid cutting a new mortise or replacing the exterior handle set.
Compatibility depends on cylinder type, available key operation, thumb-turn geometry, mounting surface and the torque needed to retract the latch or bolt. Check whether an inserted indoor key blocks an outdoor key, whether the cylinder has an emergency function and whether the door already needs lifting, pushing or pulling before it can lock smoothly.
U200 Lite uses the same retrofit idea without the full exterior biometric keypad package. It suits users who primarily want app, Bluetooth, Matter and voice-based motor control while retaining the current outside appearance. Both require a compatible Matter controller and Thread border router for full Matter-platform operation.
Choose U300 for a compatible single-latch lever
U300 is a lever lock built around a single-latch preparation rather than a multi-point mortise. Fingerprint recognition sits in the handle, and it also supports PIN, NFC, Apple Home Key, Bluetooth and mechanical key entry. Matter over Thread provides platform connectivity through compatible infrastructure.
It can suit an internal office, store room, side entrance or a gate that has the correct lock box and latch geometry. Check the cross-bore, latch bore, backset, door thickness, handing and room for the exterior keypad. A metal gate often needs purpose-built fabrication so the latch and strike align without the inner panel colliding with the main door.
A single latch provides a different mechanical arrangement from a full mortise with multiple bolts. Choose it because that form fits the opening and use case, not because its access list is similar to a larger entrance-door model.
Choose U400 for a compatible deadbolt door
U400 replaces a supported tubular deadbolt and adds an exterior keypad, fingerprint reader, mechanical key and Matter-over-Thread control. Its defining access feature is Ultra-Wideband unlock on approach with supported iPhone and Apple Watch models, using range and direction rather than a simple Bluetooth-nearby test.
It is appropriate where the door already has—or can correctly receive—the specified deadbolt bore, backset and strike. It does not replace a handle latch, so the door still needs separate pull or lever hardware where required. The local U400 Kit includes a Hub M100, which can provide Thread border-router and Matter-controller functions for an Aqara Home setup.
Confirm current phone, watch and home-hub requirements for the desired wallet feature. UWB and Home Key compatibility can affect the user experience, but the physical deadbolt preparation remains the first filter.

Assess a metal gate separately from the main door
Singapore entrances often pair a timber main door with a metal gate. The two leaves move through the same space, and a digital lock on either one can collide with the other. Measure the closed gap, handle sweep, keypad projection, gate bars, hinges, strike position and the order in which the leaves open.
Aqara's B50 is a locally listed deadbolt-style option that can be installed on a metal gate only with a suitable gate lock box and verified clearances. U300 may suit a compatible fabricated single-latch gate. Other models can be inappropriate even if a bracket could physically hold them. The gate fabricator or lock installer must own the mechanical design.
Decide whether both leaves need smart locks. Two independent locks increase entry steps, battery maintenance and emergency-release considerations. In some homes, one smart lock plus a well-designed conventional gate latch is the clearer system.
Prepare an installer fit pack
Send the pack before purchase or cutting. A competent installer should confirm the exact model and template, identify any carpentry or metalwork, and explain which existing holes will remain visible. Product availability and installation feasibility are separate approvals.

- Door preparation and panel clearance required
Retrofit or single latch
- U200 / Lite retain a compatible cylinder
- U300 replaces a compatible single-latch lever
- Existing mechanism must operate smoothly
Deadbolt or gate
- U400 replaces a compatible tubular deadbolt
- B50 needs a suitable gate lock box for gate use
- Every gate needs a separate collision and strike check
Unlock methods come after fit. Do not cut a door from a web photograph or a different model's template.
