Power tools and cutting and grinding discs always carry some risk. Work to the relevant industry safety standards and follow each product’s technical and safety documentation.

Recognising risks
When working with cutting-off wheels and grinding discs, guard against:
- contact with rotating abrasive discs
- abrasive disc breakage
- grinding dust and debris
- vibration
- noise
Personal protective equipment
Always wear goggles, gloves, ear muffs and a dust mask. For hard grinding work you also need face protection, a leather apron and safety boots.
Machine guards
Never modify or remove the guard supplied with the machine. When using cup grinding wheels, the outer surface must be completely enclosed.
Only use cup grinding wheels with an adjustable wheel guard. This balances wear on the disc and keeps the exposed part of the disc to a minimum.
Checks before mounting
Make sure the disc RPM matches the machine RPM setting, and never exceed the maximum permitted operating speed. Check the cutting-off wheel or grinding disc carefully for damage. Never use a damaged disc. Klingspor cutting-off wheels and grinding discs are marked with the relevant safety pictograms.
Proper use
Use each disc only for its intended purpose. Protect the mounting bore and the disc from jolts, excessive force and drops.
Mount the disc properly and securely, using the correct mounting flange.
Before starting work, run the disc at operating speed for at least 30 seconds.
Follow the FEPA safety regulations and European Standard EN 12413.
Peripheral speed and grinding pressure are the key parameters for good cutting and grinding results.
Storage
Store all cutting-off wheels and grinding discs in a cool, dry place.
Moisture content is the main factor in the shelf life of cutting-off wheels and grinding discs. Discs exposed to high humidity after manufacture can have a shorter service life. Proper storage keeps service life long and consistent. Discs that have been exposed to water or steam are a safety risk.
