Introduction to PU foams

Soudafoam Gun for Window Application

One-component polyurethane foam is a moisture-curing material used to fill, insulate and seal specified gaps in construction. The cured foam is different from a joint sealant and normally forms one component of a complete joint detail.

Typical applications

  • Filling gaps around compatible window and door frames.
  • Filling service penetrations where no tested fire or water system is required.
  • Thermal and acoustic insulation within specified joints and cavities.
  • Bonding or mounting applications only where the product is approved for that use.

Product selection

Check the dispensing method, expansion, yield, cell structure, curing conditions, substrate compatibility and required fire, thermal or acoustic performance. A fire-rated foam must be used only in the tested joint configuration; the product label alone does not create a rated system.

Application and safety

Follow the technical and safety data sheets. Protect adjacent finishes, provide ventilation, wear the stated personal protective equipment and observe the curing and trimming instructions. Gun-applied products require a compatible applicator and cleaner.
